Tuna fishing trips to Perdido Spar in the Gulf of Mexico provide some of the best opprtunities in the Gulf of Mexico to catch Yellowfin Tuna year round. The reason is that Perdido Spar is located in close proximity to the Aliminos Canyon in the Gulf of Mexico where Yellowfin and Blackfin Tuna as well as Bluefin Tuna and some billfish are known to spawn.

Perdido is located farther south in warmer waters than other floaters where anglers target Yellowfin Tuna such as Boomvang, Nansen, Hoover Diana and Gunnison. Being that far south also tends to thin the crowds from bigger ports like
Galveston, Freeport and Port Aransas.

South Padre Island, TX, is the closest port on the Gulf Coast to Perdido Spar (120 miles due East of SPI), 40 miles closer than Port Aransas, TX. With sustained winds predominantly coming from the South and Southeast, we also have an easier ride to Perdido from South Padre Island, TX.

The Yellowfin Tuna may be the primary target species on our rig trips but there are plenty of other fish to catch as well. In addition to the tons of blackfin tuna that congregate around Perdido, there are usually no shortage of dolphin (a.k.a.:dorado, mahi mahi). In the winter months we usually see big mako sharks and spring through fall is almost guaranteed a Blue Marlin. We cannot forget wahoo as we always seem to get a couple on floater trips.

Swordfish are another possibility and although it is a totally different style of fishing, it can be nothing less than spectacular. We can do it in the same floater trip too.

If you want to do a floater trip to Perdido to catch a few yellowfin tuna and do some bottom fishing, we can do that too. Besides catching tuna, we have plenty of great bottom structure on the way to and from Perdido Spar Rig. We can target amberjack, several different species of grouper and - WHEN IN SEASON - plenty of Red Snapper (within the legal limits).

All floater trips are now starting at $4,000 for up to 6 people. Floater trips to Perdido Spar will be up to 36 hours under normal circumstances. Keep in mind that the trip could be shorter should we run out of room for fish. We carry 2 Icee-Cool 400 fish boxes loaded with ice. These boxes will hold 6 limits or 70 lb. of yellowfin tuna. We also have an 8 ft big game bag for Swordfish, Mako Sharks or anything too big for the fishboxes.

We have 2 U.S.C.G.licensed captains onboard along with our first mate on floater trips. We carry an Iridium Satellite phone, a handheld GPS, an extra EPIRB and ALL SAFTETY EQUIPMENT.
